Spring with Beethoven & the Schumanns

This program features pieces by both Clara and Robert Schumann, a renowned 19th-century musical couple whose lives and works deeply influenced Romantic-era music. Clara, a virtuosic pianist and composer, balanced a wildly successful concert career with raising their 8 children, while also steadfastly championing Robert’s compositions. Robert, a visionary composer, was inspired by Clara and composed prolifically in the years after their wedding. Robert struggled with mental illness throughout his life and suffered a tragic early death, after which Clara promoted his music and continued her concert tours in Europe for decades.
We look forward to sharing their story with you through Clara’s Three Romances and Robert’s Violin Sonata No. 2 in D minor!
