The London-based Doric String Quartet, renowned worldwide for their incredible passion and precision, presents a compelling program in which they explore the enduring influence of Beethoven’s genius through the distinct voices of three extraordinary composers.

The program begins with Mendelssohn’s String Quartet in E-flat major, an early masterpiece which stylistically pays subtle tribute to Beethoven’s late style, while also asserting the young composer’s own inventive voice.  The programme culminates in a performance of Beethoven’s own String Quartet in E-flat major, “Harp” – so named for its distinctive pizzicato passages. This powerful piece stands as a testament to Beethoven’s revolutionary spirit and enduring power to inspire.

Program

  • Mendelssohn String Quartet in E-flat, Op. 12
  • Beethoven String Quartet in E-flat, Op. 74, “Harp”

Doric Quartet: Maia Cabeza & Ying Xue – Violin, Emma Wernig – Viola, John Myerscough – Cello
